CØNFESSIØN
(principal photography begins on my HD Short)

Principal photography began this week on my HD short, 'Confession'. Shooting won't officially commence until August - where a 5-day shoot has been scheduled - but the DP team were over from Belgium on another shoot I was serving on as 1st AD, and we took the opportunity to run some tests.

We experimented with some different colour tones (am still debating whether to shoot the whole thing in b&w or just partially) and a variety of 35mm prime lenses. The raw footage was incredibly sharp, exhibited in a couple of stills below.

Olivier Vanaschen, Olan Bowland and Sebastien Goyon (or, "The Black Sheep" as they're better accumlatively known) are a cutting-edge hi-def cinematography team and I'm delighted to have them on board the project. You can check out some of their previous work via their impressive site: www.theblacksheep.be

("The Black Sheep" and myself, far right,
setting up a shot on Blood Ties)

Working with them for the past week on Jimmy Cheng's "Blood Ties", a UK Film Council-commissioned short, was a great insight into their methods of working and the skillset they'll bring to the production.

Casting has now also been confirmed; Timo Gilbert (Da Vinci Code, X-Men 3, Darkness) - pictured above - and Lorin McCraley (Oz, Malcolm In The Middle, Point Pleasant) are both attached and set to star. I'm greatly looking forward to working with the both of them.

Robert Fairhurst is producing through Aspect Ratio Productions.
